Background removed in your browser with AI — nothing is uploaded

The AI model (~40 MB) downloads once on first use, then processing is instant and fully offline.

About the Remove Image Background

Erase the background from a photo automatically and download a clean, transparent PNG. The Background Remover runs an AI segmentation model directly in your browser — the model downloads once (about 40 MB) on first use, then everything runs offline and your image is never uploaded. A built-in editor lets you refine the result by hand.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop in a JPG, PNG or WebP image — the AI model loads on first use.
  2. 2Wait a few seconds while the background is detected and removed.
  3. 3Refine edges with the brush and magic-wand tools in the editor if needed.
  4. 4Download your cut-out as a transparent PNG.

AI that runs on your device

Unlike most background removers, this tool doesn't send your photo to a cloud service. It uses a neural network (the ISNet model) compiled to run in the browser, so the image is processed on your own hardware. The model file is cached after the first download, which means subsequent images are near-instant and work even without an internet connection. It handles people, products and objects well; fine details like hair or fur can be touched up with the included brush and magic-wand editor.

Common uses

  • Creating transparent product photos for an online store or marketplace.
  • Cutting yourself out of a photo for a profile picture or avatar.
  • Preparing images for a poster, thumbnail or presentation without a busy background.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The background is removed by an AI model running inside your browser, so the image never leaves your device.
Why does it download about 40 MB the first time?
That's the AI model. It's fetched once and cached, after which processing is fast and works fully offline.
Can I fix edges the AI got wrong?
Yes. The built-in editor includes brush and magic-wand tools plus zoom, so you can erase or restore areas by hand before downloading.
